The QTAC 75UHP (Ultra-High-Pressure) UHP fire skid unit provides significant fire suppression in a compact, affordable and highly effective package. Utilizing pump technology first developed by the U.S. Air Force, the QTAC 75UHP applies water—or water and A Foam—at 1,200 psi and 6.7 GPM, enabling just over 11 minutes of continuous firefighting on one 75-gallon tank of water.
Like all QTAC models, the 75UHP fire skid unit is built entirely of impact resistant, non-corrosive copolymer material, and uses only the highest quality components. The UHP pump is coupled with a 2.5-gallon foam cell, manual Hannay hose reel and an 8-horsepower, electric start Honda engine.
ADVANTAGES OF UHP
In making a fire equipment purchasing decision, there are many advantages to a UHP pumping system that should be considered.
First, in an ideal setting, most of the water delivered to a flame front would be used to cool the fire environment (one leg of the fire triangle), thereby helping to knock down the fire in the shortest amount of time. Compared to a standard centrifugal pumping system, a UHP pumping system more closely reaches this ideal — water droplets from a UHP pumping system are significantly smaller than droplets produced by a typical centrifugal pumping system. These smaller droplets more readily convert to steam upon reaching the flame front, resulting in a more aggressive transfer of heat out of the fire environment.
Second, UHP systems generally require much less water to suppress a fire than traditional centrifugal pumping systems. In the case of our 75UHP, the maximum flow rate is a miserly 6.7 GPM. This means the 75UHP enables over 11 minutes of flat-out firefighting effort with just 75 gallons of water onboard. In comparison to a traditional high-flow centrifugal pumping system which may discharge 70 – 80 GPM, UHP can also significantly reduce water-related damage caused during firefighting efforts.
Third, with the foam injection system activated, the 75UHP penetrates deep into the fuel source (another leg of the fire triangle), cutting off fuel supply to the fire and leaving a blanket of foam to help prevent re-ignition.
